The starting point of Mongolia’s national road network, marked as reference point 0.00, was approved by Government Resolution No. 95 in 1971. It was designated at the center of the four-way intersection located east of the Central Post Office and southwest of Sukhbaatar Square.
In 1999, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment and development of Mongolia’s road sector, a symbolic monument was newly erected and placed in the northwestern part of the central garden in front of Sukhbaatar Square.
Later, in 2019, to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the country’s road sector, the employees of “Khurdny Zam” LLC initiated the creation of a new monument. Representing the “Unbroken Artistic Network,” it symbolizes the vigorous future development and lasting strength of Mongolia’s road system. The monument, made of natural granite, was officially handed over to the state-owned “Road and Transport Development Center” for care and maintenance.
